Step One: Numbering The Guitar Frets |
Learning how to count the frets on the guitar may seem pretty simple but is very important for you, as a beginner guitar player, to learn how to do. Throughout your guitar life you will take a lot of guitar lessons so you need to know how to put your fingers where people are telling you.
Start with thickest guitar string and pluck it without “fretting” any fret. That is called playing a string “open”. If you were to put any of your fingers right behind the first fret on the thickest guitar string you would playing the “1st fret” of the thickest string. The thickest string is called the low E or 6th string. We will cover the names of the strings in the next lesson.
Put one of your fingers right behind the 2nd fret on the low E string. Now you are playing the 2nd fret of the low E string. You can count up each fret all the way up the fretboard. The next fret would be the 3rd fret and so on. That’s how you count frets on the guitar. Now we need to learn the names of the strings on the guitar.
Now that you know the basic parts of the guitar it is time to move on to learning the names of the guitar strings.
